Break Down, Build up Exhibition with Art Critic Peter Frank and artists Daniel Dove & Marie Thibeault

It’s important to stay connected with your community, and attending Orange County events is an ideal way to do that.  This event will not only make you feel more a part of the Orange County community but also help keep the appreciation of art alive. This January, be part of this incredible event where art critic Peter Frank will be joining us for the Break Down, Build Up exhibition along with famous artists Daniel Dove and Marie Thibeault. Come and join a discussion about contemporary landscape painting for free.

Not only is Peter Frank an art critic, but he is also a famous Los Angeles based poet. His books are popular among readers, and they have been published by well-known institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Museo Reina Sofia Museum in Spain. His work is featured in the Huffington Post, Los Angeles Weekly, and The Village Voice. Peter also teaches and lectures at some of the world’s most famous universities. Over the past few decades, his art exhibitions have received global recognition.

Break Down, Build Up Exhibition

Break Down, Build Up is a two-person exhibition that presents some inspiring paintings by famous artists Daniel Dove and Marie Thibeault. Both artists utilize themes of landscape and modern America and  reflect on ideas relating to consumption, industrialization, ruin, and the natural environment.

About the Artists

Like most of the amazing Orange County events we recommend, this art exhibition will fascinate its attendees with the talent involved.

Daniel Dove

Daniel Dove’s work is famous among art lovers worldwide, and his work has been shown in galleries and museums.

His recent paintings illustrate a fictional, once-grand environment that has now become unruly and decrepit. Whether initially built for entertainment, social organization, or to realize the perfect dream, these places are now marked and destroyed by natural factors and human intervention.

Most of his work shows the restored geometry of modernist painting to rearrange these wrecks.  His work represents both the built environment and the history of the period style.

Marie Thibeault

The large-scale oil paintings of Marie Thibeault address the tension of the urban landscape and the natural world. The idea of the paintings is rooted and informed by the direct experience of living near the expansive industrial Port of Los Angeles. Marie’s work contracts industrial structure with the organic forms while referencing the surrounding landscape with atmospheric color fields. Most importantly, it suggests the ideas of flux, change, and instability in our environment.

Her work has been recently featured in exhibitions such as Conveyance, at the Long Beach Museum of Art, The Feminine Sublime at the Pasadena Museum of California Art, and Color Vision, at the Huntington Beach Art Center.
