Orange County always has many opportunities for fun days out with the younger members of your family. October is an excellent month for arranging playdates with their friends, as there are events lined up that will appeal to all, from toddler to teenager. These are our top selections.
Halloween Time at Disneyland
At the Disney properties in Orange County, Halloween is always a special time, and this year is no exception. For the whole month, there will be a spooky theme, as many of the most popular rides undergo a transformation for the season. The Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain are a must, as there will be some terrifying additions to each that are positively scream-inducing. There will also be a Pretty Pumpkin parade. If you head to California Adventure, you can watch in appreciative horror as Cars Land turns into “Radiator Screams.” This year there will also be a new Guardians of the Galaxy “Monsters After Dark” Halloween experience. Times vary for these Orange County events, so be sure to check out the website or call beforehand.
Kings, Queens, and Castles Exhibit
At the Bowers Kidseum in Santa Ana, October is the first month of the Kings, Queens, and Castles Exhibit. This is a special featured attraction that teaches kids all about the game of chess in creative and exciting ways. They can start to learn about some of the strategy involved and perhaps a lifelong love affair with the game will be kindled. You might end up with a young Bobby Fischer on your hands. Keep in mind that the museum is only open on the weekends.
The Lion Guard Exhibit
Also starting in October, the Discovery Cube OC will feature the new Lion Guard Exhibit, inspired by the Disney Junior TV program of the same name. Open daily, kids and parents can explore the Pride Lands. Fun adventures abound as youngsters get to have a hands-on experience training in the Lion Guard’s secret lair. They’ll learn all about African wildlife, and learn some valuable life lessons from the stars of the show. This event is perfect for the imaginative younger children in your family.
That’s it for this month’s featured events. If one of your children has a noteworthy day coming up any of these would be ideal, or just a fun time out for no particular reason would be a great chance for bonding as well.
