Don’t Miss Orange County Events Like Virtual Performances Hosted by the Philharmonic Society

If you love classical music, then you’re probably used to going to a lot of Orange County events hosted by the Philharmonic Society. Their Spring 2021 programming looks a little different this year with many virtual performances and some in-person concerts planned for later in the year. For many people, Orange County events have looked different in the past year. Due to the global health crisis that we have faced as a nation, many people have been forced to stay inside and social distance to remain healthy. Fortunately, there have been a variety of safe alternatives like virtual concerts in order to continue supporting the arts and maintain a sense of community. Check out the talented musicians presented by the Philharmonic Society and purchase your tickets for March.

George Li, piano – March 4th @ 7pm

For this virtual performance, George Li performs Beethoven’s “Eroica Variations, Op. 35” and Liszt’s “Piano Sonata in B minor, S. 178.” George Li is a Harvard graduate who has established an international reputation as a piano virtuoso. He gave his first public performance at the age of ten in Boston’s Steinway Hall. With his increased dedication and skill, George Li was the winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2010, the Gilmore Young Artist Award in 2012, and the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2016.  In 2011, he performed at the White House and in 2015 he won the Silver Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. In 2019, Li’s performance at the Russian National Orchestra solidified his musical prowess and acclaim. Now, he returns to Beethoven’s Eroica Variations in this virtual concert hosted by the Philharmonic Society.

Brooklyn Rider – March 11th @ 6pm

Brooklyn Rider is an American string quartet with Johnny Gandelsman and Colin Jacobsen on the violin, Nicholas Cords on the viola, and Michael Nicolas on the cello. They are based in Brooklyn, New York. This virtual concert will follow five separate performances, including Jacobsen’s “Three Miniatures for String Quartet,” Shaw’s “Schisma,” Frank’s “Kanto Kechua #2,” Esmail’s “Zeher (Poison),” and Ravel’s “String Quartet in F major.” Brooklyn Rider attracts fans from a variety of musical backgrounds including rock, world, and classical.

Yefim Bronfman, piano – March 21st @ 3pm

This virtual performance features Grammy-winning Yefim Bronfman performing Beethoven’s “Sonata in D major, Op. 10, No. 3,” Debussy’s, “Suite bergamasque,” and Beethoven’s “Sonata in F minor, Op. 57 (Appassionata).” Yefim “Fima” Naumovich Bronfman was born on April 10th, 1958 in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR and then immigrated to Israel at the young age of 15. Eventually, Bronfman made his way to America and became an American citizen in 1989. Since then, he has been nominated for 6 different Grammy awards, one of which he won with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Esa-Pekka Salonen. Bronfman won his Grammy in 1997 for a recording of the three Bartok Piano Concerti. Yefim Bronfman studied music at the Curtis Institute of Music, Marlboro School of Music, and The Juilliard School. He has received a plethora of awards and recognition, including the Avery Fisher Prize, the Jean Gimbel Lane prize in piano performance, and an honorary doctorate from the well-esteemed Manhattan School of Music.
