These Orange County Events Are Perfect For Your Energetic Young Ones

If you’re hanging out with the kids every weekend and you’re getting sick of watching Dora the Explorer with them, then it’s time to look into some Orange County events that are appropriate for your little ones. Here are some selections that will stimulate their young minds and give you a welcome change of pace as well.

Drop-In Crafts Monthly Crafting Program

Crafting sessions for kids allow them to be creative and to interact with others their age. The monthly crafting program at Drop-In Crafts at the Newport Beach Central Library in Newport Beach lets you supervise as your child enjoys a structured crafting experience.

Taking place on February 2nd in the library’s Children’s Storytime Room, this month’s theme will be Knights and Castles. If you have a young King Arthur or Merlin on your hands, this is going to be ideal. Kids can come in costume if they like, though they’ll have to leave their trusty steeds in the parking lot. Recommended for ages 3-8.

Redwood Hike

If you would prefer for your child to get outside for some fresh air, how about a Redwood Hike through Carbon Canyon Regional Park? This is one of the kid-friendly Orange County events that will let your bundle-of-energy burn off some calories while learning about nature.

On February 2nd, trained staff from the OC Park district will lead a hike through Carbon Canyon, though it shouldn’t be too rigorous for younger participants. The trail is about a mile, and there are no huge hills or obstacles. Your kids will learn to engage with nature through all of their five senses as they enjoy the majesty of these towering redwoods, some of them hundreds of years old. Starting at 9:30, you’ll also get a chance to learn about much of the native flora and fauna.

Story Time in the Garden

For a more subdued experience, Story Time in the Garden at Orange County Great Park in Irvine should be ideal. On February 3rd, take the kids for a reading from a classic children’s book, and you can also bring along your gently-used books to donate if you’d like.

This event is all about stimulating creativity and imagination, and it’s a welcome change from TV and cell phone videos. It’s also a monthly event, so if your kids enjoy themselves, then you can go back again in March.

That’s going to do it for February. We think you and your kids will have a great time at these OC events, and be sure to see us at Toyota of Orange if you’re thinking about purchasing used cars near Santa Ana.
