Online Orange County Events For Kids: Magic Bus Virtual Field Trip

If your little ones are the type of kids who love the great outdoors, you might be having a little trouble finding ways to keep them entertained at home during the age of quarantine and stay-at-home orders. Luckily, there are many online Orange County events that just may fix this! Done completely in the safety of your own home, online events like CSUN’s Magic Bus Virtual Field Trip take your children on a wild journey that will not only entertain them but teach them something new about the animal kingdom. Read below for more information about this amazing experience!

What is the Magic Bus Virtual Field Trip?

The Magic Bus Virtual Field Trip is an adventure made just for kids. Best suited for children ages 4-8, this free online event takes your child to different Californian forest habitats to get to know all about the many ecosystems in our home state. This event is also interactive so your child can learn in an engaging and fun way. With activities like 360-degree tours of real forests, your child will get to know all about the different native plants and animals that live around us! And if your kids are hard of hearing- no worries! Accessibility is very important to CSUN, so they’ll be uploading a recording of the event to their YouTube channel with closed captions included. You can expect this recording to be posted 5 business days after the live event has occurred. This truly is the perfect midday activity for all the little explorers in your life!

Who’s hosting this event?

This event is being hosted by California State University, Northridge. Located in Los Angeles, this university is commonly credited as playing a significant role in the world of scientific research. So, you can trust that Orange County events hosted by this institution are giving your children front row access to only the best and most factual information available.

How to access this event

You can access this event via  CSUN’s website. There, you’ll find a link to register for the event as well as a Zoom link that will take you to the meeting room where the actual field trip will take place. This event will take place from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM on Tuesday, February 9th.

For the full interactive experience, CSUN recommends downloading the Zoom application onto your computer so you can have complete access to the site’s features. However, if your computer won’t allow you to download, you can also access the Magic Bus Virtual Field Trip Zoom meeting room through your web browser or mobile device.

Tips to enhance your field trip experience

Of course, this step isn’t necessary, but if you’re looking to treat your children to the full field trip experience, there are plenty of extra things you can do at home to make their afternoon even more exciting. CSUN suggests dressing your little ones up in hiking gear so they can feel more immersed in the virtual wildlife world, but why stop there? You can make special snacks, queue up nature documentaries to play after the field trip, and set up a little scavenger hunt in your own backyard where your kids can go wild hunting for bugs, flowers, rocks, and more. Your only limit is your imagination!
